African Public Procurement Network Fourth General Assembly

The APPN is the largest formal public procurement network in the world. It includes 54 African countries which are grouped into five sub-regional networks.

Public procurement plays a crucial role in Africa's economic development (17% of GDP on
average) and socioeconomic environment. Effective public procurement systems directly
influence a country's economic growth and service delivery.
Forty-three African countries' representatives formally established the African Public Procurement Network (APPN) in Lomé in October 2018 by signing its Articles of Association
(AA).
The main purpose of the APPN is to provide a platform for learning and networking to
public procurement policy makers, regulators and practitioners of its Member Countries (MCs).
The AA deal in detail with the objectives of the Network, set out the rules for membership, and established its governing bodies and their functions. The organs of the Network include President, the Executive Committee (EC), the Vice President (also the EC Coordinator), and the Technical Secretariat based in Lomé, Togo.

The aim will be to achieve the Network's overarching goal of providing the heads of Public
Procurement Authorities and other key stakeholders of the APPN MCs a platform of learning and networking.
The General Assembly is intended to give an opportunity primarily to the heads of public
procurement of the member countries to learn from one another, and from experienced
procurement officials/experts from the countries with well-functioning public procurement
systems. However, the member countries can nominate more participants provided that these
nominations belong to the sectors and agencies relevant to public procurement such as
procurement capacity building institutions, oversight bodies, civil society, construction,
manufacturing and consulting industries. Participants in addition to heads of public procurement authorities bear the cost of their participation, including airfare, lodging, and boarding.

2nd International Conference on Technological Advancements in Embedded and Mobile Systems ( ITCA- EMOS)

TMA Trade Development Forum

The Government of Rwanda and TradeMark Africa (TMA) will co-host the Trade Development Forum, bringing together Heads of State and Government Officials, Development Partners, Academicians, Multilateral Organisations and Private Sector from 14 TMA countries of implementation and beyond. Under the theme “Digital Trade”, this 2-day forum will take place in Kigali, Rwanda.

The previous editions were held in Kenya in 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2019, and in Uganda in 2018.

This year's forum will spotlight innovative digital trade practices and technologies including the interoperability of digital payments, the use of distributed ledger technology (DLT) and Artificial Intelligence in trade processes, and how automation can support green trade initiatives. Discussions will address leveraging technology to streamline trade facilitation and enhance policy frameworks across Africa. Sessions will explore the convergence of digital advancements with green trade initiatives.

15th Africa Scrabble Championship

The Africa Scrabble Championship now in its 15th edition is the continent's flagship event and it is held biennially. The best Scrabble players from across the continent will storm Kigali to showcase their skills, learn from one other, and network with other players from the different countries.

This year's event coincides with the 30th anniversary celebration of PANASA. PANASA is planning a celebration evening on Friday 25th October 2024, during the period of the 15th ASC. This event will celebrate the best players, administrators, and sponsors across the continent.

Spectators are invited to come and watch as the best wordsmiths in the world compete for the Prestigious African Scrabble Champion crown, which is currently held by Nigerian university student, Enoch Nwali.

Business of Conservation Conference

Business of Conservation Conference (BCC) aims to catalyse economic development in Africa through the sustainable utilisation of wildlife resources by convening influential leaders to collaborate in ways that promote and unlock the potential of Africa's wildlife economy. It also aims to change the narrative about conservation to one where conservation and development are not seen as mutually exclusive, but are sustainably aligned and where conservation is recognised as being everyone's business and an economic opportunity for the continent.

BCC is one of a series of events in the lead up to the 20th Kwita Izina, which this year has the theme of: “A legacy of community-centred conservation, securing a sustainable future for All”.

Despite decades of increasing the number of protected areas, we are still seeing a decline in biodiversity…there is a need for change and we have to change the way we think and talk about conservation. We need to change the narrative about conservation to one where conservation and development align and are not seen as mutually exclusive. We need to consistently include people in the conservation narrative and ensure that conservation is about protecting nature for people, not from people. The current threats to biodiversity and growing negative impacts of climate change have clearly illustrated the importance of nature to all – conservation is everyone's business. BCC 2024 will look at how we can change the conservation narrative, including new and innovative approaches to ensure positive, sustainable change.

2024 Association of Eastern & Southern Africa Travel Agents (AESATA) Conference

The 2024 Conference in Kigali seeks to build on the resolutions made 2023 and will be held under the theme for the event is “Beyond Borders, Beyond Limits.“ This theme has been chosen to reflect the big ideas we have for growing travel agency businesses through expanding intra-Africa travel. The Conference will be a call to action for travel agents to think bigger, break barriers, and create a brighter future for travel in Eastern and Southern Africa.

The inaugural AESATA Travel Agents Conference was held on 22-23 May 2023 in Zanzibar and attracted more than 100 participants from 8 countries in the Eastern and Southern Africa region. Held under the theme “Rebuilding Sustainable and Resilient Travel Agencies in Africa., the conference focused on challenges faced by travel agents and explored strategies for growth and adaptation in a changing business environment. At the end of the conference, participants adopted the Zanzibar Declaration on the future of travel in the region. The resolutions include
Rebuild sustainable travel agencies by embracing adaptive technologies, fostering innovation, and investing in capacity building to ensure sustainability and competitiveness.
Advocate for government support of the Industry to create policies and interventions that facilitate business development, promote sustainable travel and tourism practices, and enhance the overall enabling environment for travel agencies.
Foster collaboration and partnerships among travel agents, industry stakeholders, and associations to promote knowledge sharing, joint marketing initiatives, and mutually beneficial cooperation that drives growth and innovation.
Promote responsible and sustainable tourism by advocating for sustainable tourism policies, and supporting initiatives that protect the environment, promote local communities, and enhance visitor experiences.
Champion for intra-Africa travel by embracing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in order to unlock the full potential of the continent's travel and tourism industry, create sustainable job opportunities, and foster a deeper sense of unity and cooperation among African nations.
Strengthen AESATA and regional collaboration by committing to recognize AESATA as a regional platform for collaboration, information sharing, and advocacy.
