Move Afrika is Global Citizen's initiative to create job and entrepreneurship opportunities, and enhance health systems for the continent's emerging generations through an annual series of live music events. This first-of-its-kind music touring circuit brings together the hottest African and international artists.

Move Afrika aims to address global inequities by creating job and entrepreneurship opportunities in Africa's music industry. The initiative seeks to drive investments, engage local talent, and provide skill development, contributing to economic growth and cultural empowerment across the continent.

These electrifying events are more than just shows — they're a catalyst to drive transformative investments and change. By engaging local artists, vendors, agencies and crews, we're driving investments into local communities and creating opportunities for on-the-job training and skill development.

The first Move Afrika event, Move Afrika: Rwanda — headlined by Grammy Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning artist, Kendrick Lamar in December, 2023 was nothing short of spectacular. Artists like Zuchu, Bruce Melodie, DJ TOXXYK, Sherrie Silver, Ariel Wayz, Kivumbi King and Bruce The 1st were also featured. The event focused on job creation, skill training and youth entrepreneurship.

The impact was huge — more than 1, 000 Rwandans were employed, and 75% of the crew and production staff were locals. Fans and artists hailed the event as world-class and the most successful live music concert ever staged in Rwanda.

3rd U.S.-Africa Frontiers of Science, Engineering, & Medicine Symposium

The U.S.- Africa program brings together outstanding young scientists, engineers, and medical professionals from the United States and the member countries of the African Union for a series of symposia to discuss exciting advances and opportunities in their fields. The goal of these meetings is to enhance the scientific exchange and dialogue among young researchers in African countries and the United States, including the African science diaspora, and through this interaction, facilitate research collaboration within and beyond the region.

Attendees will discuss advances across a broad range of multi-disciplinary topics through five plenary sessions.

Eligibility
Participants for the U.S.-Africa Frontiers program need to meet the following qualifications:

Be an emerging leader in science, engineering or medicine. Active researchers and professionals from industry, academia, public service, non-profit and other sectors with a terminal degree are eligible to apply (current students are not eligible);
Have completed your highest degree less than 15 years ago. Selected members are typically within 10-12 years of their advanced degree at the experience level of assistant/associate professor or equivalent in a non-academic setting;
Professional proficiency in English;
Be employed in the U.S. or one of the African Union member countries, but citizenship of the country of residence is not required;
Have demonstrated accomplishments in science, engineering, or medical research, or technical work with recognizable contributions to advancing their fields;
Be interested in developments in other fields (and in engaging with people working on them) and be able to consider how advances, techniques, and approaches in those areas relate to the nominee's own field; and
Conduct research with a strong potential for developmental impact in the US and/or Africa (participation in scientific projects/scientific meetings/contribution to the promotion of S&T within society).

4th Global NCD Alliance Forum

The next Global NCD Alliance Forum will take place in Kigali, Rwanda, organised by the NCD Alliance (NCDA) in partnership with the Rwanda NCD Alliance as local host.

The Forum will gather over 500 participants to improve NCD prevention and care for people living with noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) by playing a convening role for civil society and key stakeholders in the NCD community.
As NCDA's flagship convening platform, it is held biennially to promote knowledge exchange, share good practice and strengthen capacity to advocate for prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) globally. The fourth edition will offer a prime opportunity to unite and mobilise civil society ahead of the next UN High Level Meeting on NCDs in 2025.

Pan-African Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Conference

From 24 to 28 February, the University of Rwanda (UR), Operation Smile (OSI) and the Rwanda Ministry of Health will convene the Pan-African Plastic and Reconstructive Surgical and Research Community along with academicians, policy makers, global surgery policy experts and key stakeholders for the inaugural Pan-African Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Conference: A Surgeon in Every District. The event will be held at the Kigali Serena Hotel.
The conference , designed by the Pan-African surgical community for its members, will strengthen this network, reinforce local providers, highlight best practices, share research findings, advance surgical innovation and promote surgical equity.
This conference will explore context-specific solutions to identified gaps in local surgical ecosystems and recommend specific clinical practice and policy innovations to increase surgeon density, expand access to essential surgery and improve health equity throughout Africa.

Goals & Objectives
Increase Surgical Equity in Africa by strengthening the local surgical workforce.
•Reinforce the Pan-African network of surgical providers and researchers
•Expand training opportunities for the surgical workforce
•Support surgical clinical research and publication by African investigators of African populations
•Share innovations to meet surgical gaps in resource limited settings.
•Build support for policy changes that promote workforce capacity and surgical access
•Deepen funding for locally-driven sustainable approaches to workforce strengthening and surgical equity

Activities
Activities will include keynote addresses from global leaders, expert clinical presentations, research presentations, moderated roundtables and panel sessions, poster sessions, multidisciplinary case discussions, exhibition booths by participating sponsors and organizations, and a vendor fairs. Two days of hands-on training for operative team members (surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, intensivists, pediatricians and generalists) in the form of lectures and simulation will precede the conference.

Race Around Rwanda 2025

Bikepacking racing around Rwanda

The Race Around Rwanda is an ultra distance bikepacking race in the hills of Rwanda.
The race covers 1000 km and over 18.000 meters of elevation, often at high altitude with about 25% over 2000 meters of elevation.
This is a off-road race, even though more than half of the race is on incredibly smooth tarmac.
The off-road sections (see more about them later in this guide) are of variable quality, some are “roller skating smooth”, others might make you wish you brought a MTB instead of a gravel bike.
Due to the heavy rains in Rwanda and the amazing government effort to repair roads continuously, it is hard to predict the quality of the roads for each edition. We will recce the full course shortly before the event and give you the latest update on the gravel quality during the briefing.
Race Around Rwanda is an exploration of one of the most special countries in the world. A country where cycling is the main mode of transportation, and where you will have supporters on every corner of the road.
